Logan Trading Co. in Raleigh, N.C., has put out a call to some of its "cafeteria shoppers" -- you know, those customers whose eyes are bigger than their stomachs when it comes to planting a vegetable garden.
Gardeners with excess are being urged by the Logan's staff to convert some of that garden space to feed the hungry with Logan’s and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's "Plant a Row for the Hungry" program.
This benevolent project is part of a national program sponsored by the Garden Writers Association that encourages garden communities and individuals to donate fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs to people in need in our community. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle distributes produce grown by participants directly to local families in need. Logan Trading Co. has been a drop off location in Raleigh for the past three years.
And the garden center's staff has made participating about as easy as possible: Just harvest and bring your produce to the garden center during normal business hours, and they’ll do the rest.
This program has proven a boon to the community and to the gardener participants. And while it isn't designed to be a "Cha-ching!" driver for Logan's, it does help establish the store as a goodwill ambassador.
And that's a very nice thing to be known as.
