A nonprofit group in San Jose, Calif., called La Mesa Verde, or The Green Table, is helping residents of the city’s low-income, predominantly Latino neighborhoods grow their own organic produce, New York Times reported.

The program, including bilingual gardening classes and the installation of two raised beds per yard with soil, seedlings and a drip-irrigation system, costs $210 a family. It’s financed through local foundations, a federal community services block grant and individual contributions.
